| Steve Varney |

Steve Varney
Steve Varney is the Director of The Varney Practice and also works as the Head Physiotherapist. Qualified in 1992 from Leeds University and very quickly made the jump from NHS to private practice. He developed an interest early on in his career in acupuncture and chronic conditions. This paved the way towards specialising in IMS (intra-muscular stimulation - a medical form of segmental acupuncture tailored towards chronic musculoskeletal injuries). Over the years he had the opportunity to work in the IMS centre of excellence in Vancouver, Canada and then went on to become a certified instructor (one of 3 physiotherapists qualified in the UK) which was awarded in Seoul, Korea. He was awarded an honorary fellowship from ISTOP (the IMS institute) in 2005.
More recently Steve has developed an interest in the use of Real Time Ultrasound for assisting in both diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems. He completed a 1 year part time practical course based in Bournemouth and has since utilised ultrasound imaging as a daily part of his practice.
A member of DUG; the specialist interest group in dynamic Ultrasound. Steve is additionally qualified in western and eastern acupuncture, manipulation of the spine, Cyriax approach to MSK problems and deep tissue mobilisation.
Involved with many sports clubs (football, cricket and rugby), he has treated elite and professional sports people including professional golfers, cricketers, footballers and racing drivers to name but a few. In 2000, Steve was the Physiotherapist for Benetton Formula 1 team, and worked full time for a season as consultant Physiotherapist for the Ford World Rally Team, travelling around the world with them. |

| Kat Dervish |

Kat Dervish
Kat works part time at the Varney Practice as a Sport Rehabilitator. Kat qualified from Middlesex University after completing a four year degree in Sports Rehabilitation and Injury Prevention and has since worked at a variety of football clubs prior to joining the team at The Varney Practice.
Kat has completed a variety of additional courses including spinal mobilisations and acupuncture.
Kat's special interests include sports massage, sports injuries and rehabilitation. |

| Liam Hurley |

Liam Hurley
Liam works as a Senior Physiotherapist within the Varney Practice. Graduated from the University of East London in 1992 with a BSc(Hons) in physiotherapy. He then worked in the NHS for ten years or so, eventually co-managing a busy neuromusculoskeletal outpatient department in East London. Throughout this period Liam worked part time in several private clinics and a private hospital, all as an autonomous and often a lone practicing outpatient physiotherapist.
Liam has gained post-graduate qualifications in acupuncture – TCM and IMS and auriculotherapy, Upledger CranioSacral Therapy and Somato-Emotional Release, osteopathic techniques, and Mulligans mobilisations among others.
Liam has worked for one of the Team GB swim teams and numerous professional and elite athletes, from such diverse disciplines as track and field, cycling, boxing shooting, darts, snowboarding, MMA, Judo, gymnastics and football. |

| Rob Madden |

Rob Madden
Rob works as a Senior Physiotherapist at the clinic. He qualified as a chartered physiotherapist from Bristol UWE and also holds a diploma in sports massage. Before joining the practice, Rob worked in NHS outpatients and inpatient rehab alongside early specialisation in the field of sports injuries, where his passion lies.
He has undertaken a variety of post graduate training; including spinal manipulation, taping, diagnostic ultrasound imaging and has a Masters level certificate in acupuncture. Rob has also written pieces on the topic of warm up, stretching and injury prevention.
He has worked internationally with a variety of elite athletes from Great British Olympic teams and has been Team Physiotherapist for GB Snowboarding. In addition, he has also worked in professional rugby, basketball, netball and semi-professional football.
Rob has a special interest in spinal dysfunction, IMS needling, tendinopathies and sports specific rehabilitation. He is privileged to work and learn alongside talented and renowned physiotherapists within the clinic and also high level sport. |

| Kristy Wilson |

Kristy Wilson
Kristy is employed full time at the clinic as a Sports Rehabilitation Therapist. Kristy graduated from the University of Middlesex with an honours degree in Sports Rehabilitation and Injury Protection. During her final year of University studies, Kristy was employed part time at the clinic working alongside Mike Varney. This was an opportunity for Kristy to gain valuable experience alongside established and experienced personnel in the Physiotherapy field. Following completion of her degree Kristy became a full time member of the team.
Kristy has undertaken a variety of post graduate training including acupuncture, diagnostic ultrasound imaging, and spinal manipulation. Areas of special interest include biomechanics and sports specific rehabilitation.
Kristy competes for Enfield and Haringey athletics club in the UK Women's Premiership division, which fuels her passion for the involvement in sports musculoskeletal physiotherapy and sports rehabilitation. |

Psysiotherapy
The Varney Practice Hertford, utilizes a vast array of techniques such as soft tissue massage, spinal and joint mobilization, spinal traction, acupuncture and electrotherapy which includes interferential therapy, diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound, electro acupuncture and PAMM (power assisted micro manipulation).
Sport Message
Sports massage has long been established as an essential part of sports performance and recovery. By using a number of techniques the therapist is able to help with: muscle tension and tightness; muscle spasm; injury prevention; muscular aches and pains; and increased flexibility.
Acupunture
Acupuncture is a fast and effective way of relieving pain and muscular spasm. We tailor our acupuncture towards musculoskeletal problems, using dry needle techniques and IMS (intramuscular stimulation.) IMS is a deep needling technique found to be more successful on chronic problems such as long standing back injuries and muscular strains. |
