A Physiotherapy session will include one or more of the following:

  • IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation)
  • FSWT (focused Shockwave Therapy)
  • RSWT (Radial Shockwave Therapy)
  • Bespoke Rehabilitation
  • Manipulations
  • Sports Massage
  • Interferential therapy
  • Dry Needling
  • Kinesio Taping
  • Therapeutic Ultrasound

Cost: £45 per session

RSWT (Radial Shockwave Therapy):

Shockwave therapy has been effective for the following:

  • Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylosis)
  • Golfers elbow (medial epicondylosis)
  • Calcific supraspinatus tendinopathy
  • Patella tendinopathy
  • Heel spur
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome)

What does it involve?

The physiotherapist will pass over the injured area with the shockwave applicator, you should expect to feel some discomfort but this will resolve within 24 hours.

Radial shockwave therapy typically requires three to five treatments, one week apart for optimal results. Many patients feel the results immediately after treatment and can continue to feel the effects several weeks later.

More chronic conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis require six sessions over six weeks and a further six weeks following the treatments to allow for biological healing changes to be complete.

We live in a world where technology is more accessible than ever, allowing us to achieve things we only dreamt of a few years ago. Varney Physio utilises two of the latest ultrasound imaging machines.  These are used in both the diagnostic clinic and the injection clinic.  From a diagnostic view, a standard examination performed by a doctor, physio or even surgeon, leaves a lot of questions unanswered. When combining this assessment with real time ultrasound, we are able to look inside the body and more often than not, get a confirmed diagnosis.

This is especially important with shoulders where it can be impossible to differentiate a frozen shoulder from a calcific rotator cuff, or a partial tear of the rotator cuff tendon from a full rupture without the aid of ultrasound. Once a diagnosis is made, we are able to discuss the best treatment options available and the length of time the injury is likely to take to make a recovery.

Cost: £85 per session including report

Examples of injection services we are able to offer include: cortisone injections; hyaluronic joint preserving injections; autologous blood injections; hydrodilatation/hydrodistension injections for frozen shoulders; high volume stripping injections for achilles and patella tendinopathy.

There is good evidence that PRP injections help painful knees OA and it is commonly used by orthopaedic surgeon for stubborn Tendinopathy problems. Because the injectate is the patient’s own cells there is almost no risk of any adverse reactions.  It is common to require a few injections to gain maximum benefit.

  • Cortisone injections. Cost per injection: £165
  • hyaluronic joint preserving injections:
Ostenil Plus Cost: £195 (one injection)
Ostenil Regular Cost: £350 (course of three injections)
  • autologous blood injections (PRP). Cost per injection: £295
  • hydrodilatation/hydrodistension. Cost per injection: £195

We find manipulations very effective treatment for mechanical spine problems; for example, a joint out of alignment or stuck between the shoulder blades, where relief can be instant.

Therapeutic Ultrasound:

The ultrasound waves are generated by a piezoelectric effect caused by the vibration of crystals within the head of the probe. The ultrasound waves pass through the skin cause a vibration of the local soft tissues that create therapeutic effects that include tissue relaxation, tissue heating, local blood flow increases and scar tissue breakdown. Typically, therapeutic ultrasound is used for conditions such as ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia and scar tissue adhesion.
