steve varney

Steve Varney is the owner/director of Varney Physio and also works as the head physiotherapist. Steve qualified in 1992 from Leeds University and very quickly made the jump from NHS to private practice, developing an interest early on in his career in acupuncture and chronic conditions.

Steve specialised in Intra Muscular Stimulation treatment and worked in the IMS centre of excellence in Vancouver, Canada. Gaining a certified instructorship (one of only three qualified to practice in the UK) which was awarded in Seoul, Korea. He was awarded an honorary fellowship from ISTOP (the IMS institute) in 2005.

More recently Steve has developed an interest in the use of real time ultrasound for assisting in both diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems. He has been scanning since 2010 and has gone on to achieve a post graduate certificate, followed more recently with a post graduate diploma from Bournemouth University.

Steve has treated elite and professional sports people including professional golfers, cricketers, footballers and racing drivers. In 2000, Steve was the full time physiotherapist for the Ford World Rally Team, travelling around the world with them.

Steve is not currently taking on any new patients and is instead overseeing and ensuring practice standards are met and patient care exceeded.

jonathan wride

HCPC; MCSP; AACP; PgC Injection Therapy, MSK Sonographer and Independent Prescriber.

Jonathan graduated from Cardiff university in 2012 with first class honours in Physiotherapy. After completing his rotations in the NHS, Jonathan moved into private practice to specialise in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries. Since then he has worked extensively with professional and recreational athletes at a variety of clinics across London, alongside his work with the general public.

Jonathan is regarded as a specialist, having undergone extensive post-graduate certification in diagnostic ultrasound and injection therapy. Jonathan also successfully completed his independent prescribing qualification and can prescribe medications without the need for a doctor. Jonathan strongly believes in offering his patients instant access to high-level diagnostics and specialist treatments, minimising waiting times.

Away from the clinic, Jonathan is a keen gym-goer and runner. He enjoys a healthy lifestyle including spending time in the countryside, travelling and playing golf.

Cristina Ferreira

MCSP; HCPC; OMT.

Cristina comes from Durban, South Africa. Cristina Graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in 2012.

After her studies Cristina did a year of community service at a provincial hospital, where she worked in various wards and out-patient departments. It was during this time that Cristina developed an interest in orthopaedics and musculoskeletal injuries.  Since then Cristina has moved on to work in private practice focusing in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and working with post-operative orthopaedic cases.

Cristina is a very hands-on therapist and has completed a post graduate certification in orthopaedic manipulative therapy. Cristina has a keen interest in chronic pain and has completed numerous courses to better understand and treat chronic pain conditions.

Currently, Cristina is completing her post graduate certificate in musculoskeletal ultrasonography.

In her spare time Cristina enjoys exploring forests and footpaths and attempting to play tennis.

Kristy Davies

BSc (Hons); BASRaT.

Kristy first came to the clinic 16 years ago in 2005 and mentored under our practice founder Mike Varney. Kristy went on to qualify from Middlesex University in 2006 and has been part of the team ever since.

Kristy has a particular interest in musculoskeletal, chronic pain and sports injuries, and the rehabilitation and prevention of injuries in these areas are additionally important to her care structure.

Kristy has a background in sports and competed in national league athletics and showjumping.

Since qualifying, Kristy has undertaken various additional training courses including sports massage and dry needling acupuncture to further her ability to treat and care for patients at the practice.

Kat Ionnou

Kat qualified from Middlesex University in 2006 as a Graduate Sports Rehabilitator.

Since then Kat completed various additional courses including dry needling, acupuncture and taping.

Since qualifying, she has worked privately for football teams and clinics with a special interest in sports and musculoskeletal injuries and the rehabilitation plan back to sport.

Kat also has a special interest in the treatment of migraines and hypermobility.

Tom GLINdon

PGCert MSK.

Tom graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2015. Since then he has worked at a number of private practice clinics across Hertfordshire working on back related pain with manipulative therapy.

Being a keen gym goer, runner and cyclist as well as having played rugby previously Tom has also developed a real interest in sports injuries and rehabilitation of them. He also enjoys tackling the complex picture of chronic pain.

Tom has a Post Graduate Certification in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and integrates that into his practice.

When he's not at work Tom can be found out on his paddle-board or spending time with his son in Edinburgh.

Jim Crompton

B.Ost (Hons)

Jim Crompton studied Osteopathy at the College of Osteopaths. Since qualifying, Jim has built extensive experience in the health and fitness industry, providing him an in-depth familiarity of sports rehabilitation which has led to working with Herts Constabulary and England Waterpolo.

Jim has a particular interest in assessing and treating the chronic and painful conditions arising from stressful careers. He is also interested in the effect of present-day lifestyle factors and how they contribute to our general and musculoskeletal health.

As an Osteopath, Jim will take a holistic approach to your health by assessing your symptoms along with your medical history and lifestyle to find the right treatment plan for you.

Many people think that an Osteopath is just for back pain! In fact, Jim is able to treat a variety of conditions including joint or muscle pain, injuries, arthritis, sciatica, headaches and migraines.
