Steve Varney - MCSP; HPC; BSc; PgDip; Extended Scope Physiotherapist and MSK Sonographer.
Steve Varney is the owner/director of Varney Physio and also works as the head physiotherapist.
Steve qualified in 1992 from Leeds University and very quickly made the jump from NHS to private practice. He developed an interest early on in his career in acupuncture and chronic conditions. This paved the way towards specialising in IMS (intra-muscular stimulation - a medical form of segmental acupuncture tailored towards chronic musculoskeletal injuries).
Over the years he had the opportunity to work in the IMS centre of excellence in Vancouver, Canada and then went on to gain a certified instructorship (one of only three physiotherapists qualified to practice in the UK) which was awarded in Seoul, Korea. He was awarded an honorary fellowship from ISTOP (the IMS institute) in 2005.
More recently Steve has developed an interest in the use of real time ultrasound for assisting in both diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal problems. He has been scanning since 2010 and has gone on to achieve a post graduate certificate, followed more recently with a post graduate diploma from Bournemouth University.
Steve utilises ultrasound imaging as a daily part of his practice and also heads up the injection service offered by the clinic where he combines ultrasound imaging and injection procedures.
Involved with many sports clubs (football, cricket and rugby), he has treated elite and professional sports people including professional golfers, cricketers, footballers and racing drivers to name but a few. In 2000, Steve was the full time physiotherapist for the Ford World Rally Team, travelling around the world with them.
Steve is at the clinic daily and happy to consult on new injuries especially when they require ultrasound investigation and/or injections.
Mandy is the Practice Manager and heads up our team of receptionists. She has worked at the clinic since 2000 and is an invaluable member of the team who keep the practice running smoothly.
When you get in touch with us for treatment, our receptionists will assist you in the assignment of the most appropriate physiotherapist for your injury.
